Medusa - The Album.

Did i want to hear the album??? No, not till i heard the first song, Once i heard 'Drip', I had to sit back and take note. Can't say that about the other songs though.... Here's is what i think of the album.

There is a haunting melody of sorts that is created by the keyboardist, Noel, which is played in different variations in each song, almost like a signature of the band. The keyboard loop does bring about the relief from the heavy riffing. It gives the songs a more gothic rather than heavy metal appeal.

The lead guitarist, Rahul, has done a fairly decent job, one can only hear him riffing through most songs, with a few solos put in here and there. Average job on the whole by him.

Needless to say, the band has one of the best drummers in the country. Jay has done a brilliant job, he has actually managed to draw attention from the rest of the song only to himself!

Raxit - The vocalist is average. Most of the Indian rock band vocalists are afraid of screaming and growling, of letting go in front of audiences. It shows in the first couple of songs. The singer has come into his own only after the third song.

A great ensemble though, the band can do much better, but this is a good start. Hope it only gets better from here on.

The first song on the list - Drip is the high point of the album. The song starts of with the signature piano melody. The drummer and pianist deserve an ovation, without them the song would have probably fallen apart. Of course, there is a guitar solo worth mentioning. The song gives an idea of what to expect of the rest of the songs to come. But a GREAT original composition. The vocals are not as agressive as one might expect them to be.

The second song - Inert follows almost the same pattern as the first, similar riffs and arrangement. However, the song is not as impressive as Drip.

Crop - Ah! Starts of with the piano loop I mentioned earlier. At this point it seems like the vocalist has finally gotten comfortable with the songs and is actually giving the song its worth! Now on the vocalist only gets better.

White Sign - The song doesnt really follow a tempo! But a good attempt nonetheless, sounds like a warped version of Drip!

Pseudo (s) Weep - I read somewhere that this song was the only other good song on the album. I beg to differ. By now, i am already thinking this is too much noise for a day! This is probably the highlight as far as the singing talent of Raxit goes!

If you decide to hear the album over and over inspite of the initial warning, the album will definitely grow on you. An average performance by the band, but they are definitely promising. Cheers to them and to you.
